The VCP4-DT (VMware Certified Professional - Desktop) certification can be easily earned by doing two things. Candidates must first earn the VMware Certified Professional certification on vSphere 4 or 5. The VCP4-DT exam (available in English and Japanese) must next be taken and passed with a score of at least 300. This 70 question, 90 minute test is intended for Virtualization Systems Engineers who can do two things: configure a VMware View desktop environment, and enable View client users.
Two major sections of the exam will be the implementation/configuration of View components and troubleshooting in different scenarios. Comprehensive knowledge of the functions of each component, including View Client, View Security/Transfer/Connection Server and ThinApp, will allow for the answering of many practical, job-based questions that will appear on this test.
Experience of 6-12 months with VMware View, with at least 2 years spent in the IT profession, is optimal for success in this certification program. An in-depth understanding of Datacenter design procedures and important VMware components is highly beneficial for this level of certification. Skill and knowledge can be enhanced and reinforced with five training courses that are available for this exam, including the Desktop Fast Track; Install, Configure, Manage; and Design Best Practices courses, as well as two ThinApp courses: Fundamentals, and Application Virtualization with VMware ThinApp.
