The IBM Certified Specialist is an intermediate title that includes 31 individual professional certification specialties. IT professionals who become Certified Specialists are recognized as having expertise in planning, building, installing, and configuring IBM applications and systems. These accomplished individuals also develop the skills needed to take on troubleshooting, administrative, and maintenance tasks that involve IBM systems. Examples of Certified Specialist tracks include Cognos (8) BI, Cognos (8) Controller, Rational Quality Manager (v5), FileNet Content Manager, and various Rational certifications.
Before earning the Certified Specialist title, candidates will have to pass the exam requirements for each individual track. Many of the certification tracks require only one exam, however, others may require passing two or three separate exams depending on the scope of the subject matter. Although it's not a requirement, candidates are encouraged to participate in the training opportunities that correspond to each individual track as work experience alone may not be sufficient.
