The ability to perform specific operations tasks within a storage management system is validated with the IBM Certified Operator certification. At this level, candidates should have already acquired basic performance, management and monitoring skills, and have put them to use with at least six months of experience in the workplace.
Two routes can be taken in this certification program: IBM i 6.1 Basic Operations and AIX 6.1 Basic Operations. Both tracks are very similar in content but different in the program that's certified. The IBM 000-975 exam consists of only 36 questions that will cover such things as system monitoring and management, using Management Central and i Navigator, managing users and printers, and performing backup and restoration. The AIX 000-103 exam will consist of a heftier 81 questions and will require knowledge of AIX filesystems and storage, process control, vi and Korn shell, and other operational tasks.
Classroom education can be obtained directly through IBM for the IBM 9 6.1 Basic Operations certification. Roadmaps and documentation resources are available for the AIX 6.1 Basic Operations exam. Practice exams are available.
