The CCDA certification is aimed towards those who have the knowledge necessary to design services which involve LAN, WAN, and broadband access. Candidates should feel comfortable working in a business environment. Ideally, certification candidates should understand concepts related to campus, voice, security, wireless networking, and data center before attempting to become certified.

There are no formal requirements for attempting to gain a CCDA (Cisco Certified Design Associate) certification. However, it is recommended that potential candidates have the same skill levels as those professionals who already hold a CCNA certification and the CCNP level of switching certification. To obtain the CCDA certification, candidates must pass the 640-864 Designing for Cisco Internetwork Solutions exam.
