A primary purpose of the ArchiMate Certification Program is to certify candidates who have the necessary skills to operate ArchiMate, a modeling language for Enterprise Architecture. This is done under their ArchiMate 2 Certification for People Program. Additionally, The ArchiMate 2 Tool Certification Program provides certification for the tools which meet the requirements necessary to provide support for the ArchiMate modeling language. A third aspect of the ArchiMate Certification Program is the ArchiMate 2 Accredited Training Course Program, which assess training courses, personnel, and organizations.
For candidates, certification is gained only after passing an exam. The target audience for candidates includes those who have an understanding of ArchiMate, professionals responsible for developing architecture artifacts, and architects who want to achieve a certification to prove their expertise. In order to be eligible to take the exam, candidates must first complete an Accredited Training Course. During the Accredited Training Course, a candidate will be required to learn both an ArchiMate Specification and the general Conformance Requirements. If a candidate does not pass the exam on the first try, they are encouraged to obtain further study and take the exam at a later date. However, they must wait for a minimum of at least one month before attempting the exam after failure.
