ACSM 040-444 : ACSM Registered Clinical Exercise Physiologist Exam
The ACSM 040-444: ACSM Registered Clinical Exercise Physiologist examination is a 3-hour exam with a total of 125 scored items. Participants registered as a CEP must hold a Master's degree in exercise science; they will work in the employment of behavioral interventions and physical activity that have been shown to provide therapeutic and operative benefit for those affected by clinical diseases and health conditions.
Training resources for this specific exam include two textbooks that are published through the ACSM publisher, LWW. Documentation (including guidelines and resource manuals) are also available to review prior to taking the exam. Current certification as a Basic Life Support Provider or CPR for the Professional Rescuer and 600 hours of preceptor-supervised clinical experience is required.
Knowledge of the general population and cardiovascular, metabolic, pulmonary, immunologic, orthopedic, and neuromuscular areas is highly beneficial. The exam will test information regarding the following areas of competency:
1. Program Administration
2. Safety Procedures
3. Medical/Surgical Management
4. Exercise Physiology, Prescription, and Programming
5. Fitness and Clinical Exercise Testing
Primary and secondary prevention/rehabilitative methods designed to improve health and physical fitness initiatives in populations should also be described and explained.
